Choosing an image map source graphic

The source graphic is the foundation upon which you build the image map. The source graphic may be a picture with distinct areas, or a row of labeled buttons, or a simple list of topics. It may be a complex graphic with all of these elements and more.

You can create the source graphic in Fireworks or import it. Either way, choose one with elements that people are likely to perceive as hotspots.

To establish a source graphic for an image map:

1 Create or import a graphic.
2 Choose Modify > Canvas Size and enter dimensions for the image map.
3 Choose File > Save As to name the Fireworks source document.

The Fireworks PNG file in which you are building the image map is not the image map itself. The exported graphic and HTML files combine to create an image map in a Web browser.
